How Long Does Botox Last?

The short answer

Most people who get Botox for expression lines notice smoothing that holds for a few months, often talked about as roughly three to four months. That is a common range, not a promise. Xeomin is often described on a similar timeline. Daxxify is often described as lasting longer for some people, sometimes closer to six months, and still not the same for everyone.

The medicine does not freeze a calendar. It relaxes targeted muscles so lines from frowning, squinting, and lifting the brows look softer. As the nerve signal returns, movement comes back and the lines gradually do too. When movement is clearly back, that is usually the cue to plan another visit, not a sign that something went wrong.

Why one person's timeline is not the next person's

Stronger frown muscles, a very expressive forehead, and a faster metabolism are all ordinary reasons a result fades sooner. A lighter treatment, chosen because someone wants more movement, can also wear off sooner. Athletes and people who metabolize medicine quickly sometimes tell us they are ready again before a friend who had a similar visit.

The area matters. Crow's feet, forehead lines, and the lines between the brows do not always fade on the same day. You might see the brow furrow return while the forehead still looks calm. That is a reason to come back for a look, not a reason to assume the whole treatment failed.

The first treatment is also a learning visit. We see how quickly you kick in, usually over several days, and how you look at the two-week point. Later visits can be adjusted because we have that history. If you have been treated elsewhere, bring that story with you. It is more useful than a generic chart.

Sun, skincare, and whether you sleep on your face do not set the clock the way muscle strength does, but they change how the skin looks while the medicine is working. A smooth muscle under crepey, dry skin still reads as texture. We will say so if a neurotoxin is only part of what you are seeing.

Botox, Xeomin, and Daxxify

Botox is the name most people use for the whole category. It is one specific neuromodulator. Xeomin is a related option that many people know as a cleaner formulation, meaning it does not include some of the accessory proteins found in other products. In day-to-day practice the choice is often about how you have responded before and what is the right fit at this visit.

Daxxify is the option patients ask about when they want fewer visits in a year. Some people do go longer between appointments. Some do not. We will not tell you it replaces a maintenance habit or that it is automatically the right product for a first treatment. If you have an event, a photo day, or a season when you do not want to be in the chair, say that out loud. Timing is part of the plan.

None of these products fills a fold that is present when your face is at rest because of lost volume. That conversation is about filler, or about leaving the line alone. Using a neurotoxin where filler belongs, or the reverse, is how results start to look odd. The consult is supposed to separate those problems before anything is opened.

Kick-in time is another place people get surprised. Botox and Xeomin commonly show over the first several days, with a look we judge around two weeks. Daxxify can follow its own pace. Do not schedule a first treatment the afternoon before a wedding and expect the final look that night. If a date matters, tell us the date.

What a visit at the Falls Church studio is like

Skin Lab is at 1140 W Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. The practice is physician-led by Dr. Patricia Ladisa-Gonzalez. People also drive in from Arlington, McLean, Vienna, Tysons Corner, and Alexandria. There is one studio, so the plan is made here, not at a second office in those cities.

A neurotoxin visit is usually short once you are an established patient. We look at your face at rest and in motion, mark the muscles we intend to treat, and talk about how much movement you want to keep. Some people want a very smooth brow. Some people want to keep a little expression so friends cannot tell they did anything. Both are reasonable. They are not the same treatment.

You can go back to most of the day afterward. We will give you the aftercare we actually want you to follow, including what to skip in the first hours. Makeup, exercise, and lying down are the questions we hear most. Follow the instructions from your visit rather than a thread from someone else's injector.

Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The studio is closed Sunday and Monday.
