What a chemical peel does

A chemical peel in Falls Church at Skin Lab is called the Glow Peel. A medical-grade solution loosens the dull, damaged top layer of skin so fresher skin replaces it. We choose the formula and the depth for what you want to change: uneven tone, sun damage, acne or fine lines.

The Glow Peel is $200 and takes 30 to 45 minutes. Read pre and post care before you book, or call 703-488-7546 with questions.

Light and medium peels compared

Depth decides both the result and the recovery. This is the conversation we have before any peel.

Depth is the decision

People often arrive asking for a peel by name. What matters more is how deep it goes. A light peel refreshes with almost no recovery. A medium-depth peel does more for pigment and lines and comes with several days of flaking.

We look at your skin tone, what you are using at home and what is on your calendar, then choose. Deeper skin tones need a gentler formula and more preparation to avoid new dark marks, and we plan for that.

What we treat

  • Uneven tone
  • Sun damage
  • Dark spots
  • Acne
  • Post-acne marks
  • Fine lines
  • Dullness
  • Rough texture

What a Glow Peel is for

  • Brighter, more even tone

Removing the damaged top layer is the most direct way to lift dullness.

  • Fewer breakouts

The acne-targeting peel clears pores and calms active congestion.

  • Softer sun damage

Spots and blotchiness fade over a series of peels.

  • Smoother fine lines

New skin reflects light more evenly, and surface lines look softer.

  • Recovery you can plan

You know the depth and the number of flaky days before we begin.

  • Better results from your products

Serums and sunscreen work on fresh skin instead of a dull layer.

A peel or microneedling

A peel works from the surface down, so it is the usual first step for tone, sun spots and breakouts. Microneedling works below the surface to build collagen, so it is the better tool for texture, pores and acne scars. For stubborn pigment see dark spots and melasma.

What to expect

  1. Skin check

We review your skin, your products and your calendar, then pick the peel.

  2. The peel

Skin is cleansed and prepped. The solution goes on in layers for a few minutes.

  3. The week after

Gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. No picking, no retinoids until we say.

Chemical peel questions

How much does a chemical peel cost in Falls Church?

The Glow Peel at Skin Lab is $200 and takes 30 to 45 minutes. That covers the skin check, the peel chosen for you and the aftercare instructions. A dermaplaning add-on is $30.

How long will I peel?

It depends on the depth. A light peel may only leave you pink and a little dry for a day or two. A medium-depth peel usually flakes from about day three to day five. We tell you which one you are getting, and what to expect, before we start.

Does a chemical peel hurt?

You feel warmth and tingling for a few minutes while the solution is on. It settles quickly once the peel is neutralized or finished.

Which peel do I need: glycolic, TCA or a VI Peel?

Those are peel types at different strengths. You do not have to choose one before you come in. Tell us the peel you were reading about and what you want to change, and we will pick the Glow Peel formula and depth that fits, or say so if another treatment suits you better.

How many peels will I need?

One peel brightens. Pigment, acne marks and fine lines usually take a series of three to six, about four weeks apart. We set the number after the first one, when we have seen how your skin responds.

Who should not have a chemical peel?

We hold off if you have a sunburn, broken or irritated skin, an active cold sore, or have recently used isotretinoin. Tell us if you are pregnant or nursing, or using prescription retinoids, so we can choose safely.

Is a peel or microneedling better for dark spots?

A peel is usually the first step for pigment that sits near the surface. Microneedling is the better tool for texture and acne scars. Many plans use both, a few weeks apart.
